Our Story

One thing you can never leave out of a wedding is the story of how two people met. So here is ours!

In the summer of 2017, LeAn started an undergraduate student organization geared towards helping undergraduate students gain employment, connect with mentors, and improve their overall university experience. Teddy had just started his junior year at GMU and wanted to get more into campus life. He found out about the organization through a member coming and speaking during his government class, after which he decided to check out the organization in September 2017. The overall meeting to him was unremarkable, except for the really excitable student speaker at the front of the room…

That excitable student speaker was LeAn, of course. For LeAn, that meeting was a bit different. She remembered putting out the sign-in sheet, talking with her friends, and trying to make the newcomers feel welcome. She remembers seeing Teddy vividly. He walked in with his signature red coca-cola shirt, khaki cargo shorts, a worn down laptop bag, and hair that nearly covered his eyes. At that moment she knew that Teddy would be very very important to her.

After the meeting, she wanted to get to know him. She remembered his name and called out to him. In her mastery of English and a poor attempt at flirting she asked “uh……what are you?”. He immediately understood the question as he got many variations of it throughout his life. He said “I am half Korean and half white”. Luckily, her friends had the same question and chimed in with their own “oh I knew it!” or “oh cool!”, which dissipated any potential awkwardness. From then on, LeAn made sure to invite him to hang-outs with her friends and get him more involved in the organization. After some months of getting to know each other, Teddy finally asked her to be his girlfriend.

LeAn and Teddy have been together since April 2018 and are excited to start the next chapter of their life together as husband and wife.

We hope you enjoyed reading how we met! Despite the awkwardness, it turned out very well.
